Spencer's Story

Spencer
Age 4
Children’s Hospital Foundation
Dwarfism

Although small in stature, Spencer has a giant passion for life. While Spencer battles achondroplasia (dwarfism) his parents say, “He doesn’t know he’s a little person. He thinks he is the boss. He has the personality of a giant.”

It’s hard to tell when Spencer is feeling weak because he is always wearing a big smile. Despite undergoing several MRI’s, CAT scans, biopsies, and blood tests, he shares his love with everyone he meets, be it doctors, family members or even strangers.

Suffering from hearing loss, Spencer communicates with sign language and his trademark grin. He cooperates with doctors during visits and even wipes his own finger with an alcohol swab for his bihourly blood sugar tests. Additionally, he deals with reflux, scoliosis and asthma, but maintains a hugely positive attitude and maturity well beyond his years.

He is an outgoing, people-magnet and loves drawing people in with his charm.
